Other Description:

This was a round headed bullet with a diameter of 11.75mm and a length of 15.5mm. It appeared to be intact. It was later identified as a .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) round used in the Thompson sub machine gun.

Historic Context:

House No.20 was reportedly the scene of heavy hand to hand fighting on the morning of the 14th feb 1942 in which the Thompson Sub machine gun played a significant part. This short range weapon spued out a lot of bullets in rapid order and was perfect for clearing rooms and keeping the enemy 's head down as the troops advanced across the open gardens. Over the course of subsequent surveys more .45 ACP rounds were found in and around No.20 reaffirming the historic accounts of house clearing operations
