Other Description:
The two buttons found on site were both 15mm in diameter and bore embossed motifs. On careful examination 17/1/68 revealed the lion and unicorn bearers of a gartered shield as seen on the General Service button of which other examples have been found around the estate. 17/1/71 however has proven to be a little more enigmatic. There is a ‘lion passant’ at the top over what could be a shield but no sign of any supporters. So although it does appear to be a GS item it does not display enough detail to identify conclusively.
Historic Context:
15mm buttons such as these were found on the field service cap or on the breast pockets of the standard field tunic
