Other Description:

This object was perforated with holes lined with metal eyelets and was originally mistaken for another charger unit but a closer examination revealed that it was made of leather and a number of stitching holes could be seen.

Historic Context:

The most obvious candidate for the source of the item is the British soldier’s ammunition boots which were standard issue to territorial units in 1940. It begs the question why would an individual dispose of his boots? The most obvious solution is that he is a casualty being housed in the hospital.
