A 1918 penny converted into a token. A hole has been drilled through Britannia's shield presumably to allow the penny to be strung onto a cord.

Historic Context:

The penny was found of the body of a dead British soldier by Pte Mick Kildey AIF whilst on a burial party soon after Mick had arrived at Adam Park. The fact that the penny bears an image of Britannia and it has been turned into a token or keepsake suggest the man was a member of the Royal Norfolk Regiment. The date 1918 may have been significant to the owner or simply commemorates the end of the First World War Mick kept the penny with hime throughout his captivity as a lucky charm. It now resides with his next of kin.
