Other Description:
The single most provocative and iconic artefact to be recovered to date from Adam Park was found in T2 just metres away from the front porch of No.8. Sitting 6cm under the surface, just under the turf layer, was the badge which was instantly recognisable as that belonging to the Cambridgeshire Regiment. The badge is 30mm x 28mm and has two round headed eyelets mounted on the reverse which would hold the badge in place and pinned at the back. The badge is probably brass. Notably the badge has no scroll, a distinguishing feature of the cap badge, along the bottom edge.
Historic Context:
Further research confirmed that this is in fact a collar badge. This is unusual as many of the contemporary photographs of the regiment demonstrate that the collar badge was not worn as part as of the tropical dress. This infers that this item was being used for another purpose when it was lost, most likely an individual’s valued keep sake brought out from the UK.
