Other Description:
A selection of photographs showing the Causeway between Johor and Singapore
Historic Context:
The Causeway was blown up on the 30th January 1942 by members of the Royal Enginrers. The resulting 60ft gap however proved not to be much of an obstacle (soldiers could wade across the gap at low tide) and the damage was repaired soon after the landings of the Imperial Guards Division at Kranji Point on the evening of 9th February. This allowed the IJA to bring over supplies and extra troops without much hindrance.
