Other Description:
A collection of documents and photographs relating to Pte Joseph Shields of the 4th Suffolks
Historic Context:
Pte Joseph Shields was killed in action on the 14th February 1942 in the action around Hill 130 and the SICC Golf Course. He was laid to rest at the corner of the wood beside the golf course and Lornie Road along with four other men. Their bodies seemed not to have been recovered to Kranji despite the detailed recording of the location of the graves and their names appear on the Singapore Memorial. There is a possibility that their bodies still lie at that location. During the Mrs Stacey Rolls, Joseph's grandaughter, contacted the project and shared family photographs of Joe and his colleagues in the 4th Suffolks
