A collection of images and documents relating to the Tivoli Theatre at Adam Park POW camp

Historic Context:

Tivoli theatre was created at the end of April 1942 with an original cast and orchestra of between 30 to 40 artists. The concerts were managed by Lt George Branson and the orchestra was led by Albert Ford of 8 Division Signals. The theatre was housed in a garage near the front of the estate which was overlooked by a steep banking on which the audience sat. The building is no longer there. Two images of the theatre have be found. The first by Cpl William Pole shows the whole building (courtesy of Mrs Rae Nixon). The second image done by Robert Mitchell AIF shows the stage curtain. Mitchell also painted the curtain itself. He admits to not portraying the dancing girls which had been painted onto the doors as he was worried his mother may have seen it on his return home. L/Bdr Des Bettany was responsible for the programme artwork and posters including the poster for 'Khaki on Parade'. The cast list for Khaki on parade is also written by him.
