Other Description:

A collection of images relating to the Caldecott Work Camp along the Thomson Road

Historic Context:

The modern Art Decco buildings that made up the Caldecott Housing Estate on the east side of Wireless Hill were taken over by an Australian detachment led by Lt Col 'Black Jack' Galleghan in March 1942 destined to work on the 'Shrine Job' at MacRitchie reservoir. Many of the original houses have been lost through renovation but one or two remain. This collection of photos and sketches show the estate as it was as a POW camp and in 2011.
