Other Description:

A collection of photographs and documents taken during the excavation of the ammunition dump at 159 Mt Pleasant Road

Historic Context:

Survey 22 at 159 Mount Pleasant Road revealed an area of garden in which approximately 900 rounds of ammunition had been apparently dumped after the fighting. The vast majority was British 7.62mm rounds for the Lee Enfield rifle, bren gun or the vickers machine gun all of which were used during the fight for the house and the attack on house 160 directly across the road. The garden was also found to have contained at least one disinterred grave; that of Capt Watson of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. More details on the survey can be found in the Museum Library - Survey Report 22.
