Other Description:
A map of Cannock dated 1957 showing the area immediately around the Church and the town centre
Historic Context:
The Cambridgeshires spent some time in Cannock before being shipped out to the Far East. The battalion HQ was billeted in the town whilst the companies were dispersed to Rugeley and the camps on Cannock Chase. The HQ Coy would most likely make use of the Queens' Hall at the top pf Church Street which was the meeting place for local reserve units in the past. Pte Jack Jennings recalls buying a watch in the town. This is a moment of indulgence for the curator as Cannock is his home town. A remarkable coincidence.
